SPECIALITY OF TRICHY

Trichyi is an animated city packed with pilgrims. It is one of southern India's oldest cities, and has been a centre of learning and pilgrimage for centuries. Trichy is a dream for shoppers. It is noted for its cigars as well as cheroots. Outside the Rock fort on NSB road is the prime shopping zone. One can pick up artificial jewellery studded with stones just outside the gates of the Rock Fort. On Big Bazaar Street are shops selling handloom saris, models made from pith apart from cigars and the like

ROCKFORT TEMPLE

The temple complex is contains three temples – Manikka Vinayakar temple, Uchhi Pillayar Koyil and the Taayumaanavar Koyil (Shivastalam). On the top of the hill is the Ganesth temple (Uchhi Pillayar). Trichy Shiva temple is divided into two sections with a separate sanctum for his consort Parvati.The Rock Fort Temple of Trichy is unique because it is the only high mound in a dominantly flat area of the city. The rock is one of the oldest on our planet – dating back nearly 3,800 million years.

SRIRANGAM

The temple of Sriranganatha is near Srirangam town situated in Tamil Nadu state of India. The Hind temple is in honour of Lord Ranganatha. It is the premier temple of the 108 Divya Desams – the holy shrines of Lord Vishnu. The temple stretches over 156 acres – it being the largest temple complex in India. There are in all seven concentric walls surrounding the main temple. The length of these walls covers over six miles. There are 21 gopurams or towers.

OUR LADY OF LOURDE'S CHURCH

This Church of Our Lady of Lourdes is nearly a century old and is situated within St. Joseph’s college compounds. The architectural style is Gothic. The spire of the Church is 200’ high and can be seen from an 8 km radius. To help maintain its antique look the authorities have refrained from painting the church. Stories from the Bible are depicted in the stained glass panels and are exquisitely beautiful. On Sundays about 6000 devotees participate in mass.

SAMAYAPURAM TEMPLE

This important temple in South India honours Samayapuram Mariamman. She is the power or shakthi behind Shiva. It is also said that she is the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Apart from daily visits from the locals the shrine is a favourite haunt for tourists.The natives of the place believe that the goddess is endowed with powers to heal chicken pox and small pox.

KALLANAI DAM

This oldest dam in the world, Grand Anicut (Kallanai) is built on the River Kavery (Cauvery). The Grand Anicut (Kallanai) was built by the Chola King Karikalan. The Grand Anicut (Kallanai)was built centuries back, as early as in the 1st Century CE. The amazing fact about the Grand Anicut (Kallanai) is that this dam is still in use, though there were minor additions and alterations by the British engineers in the nineteenth and in the twentieth centuries.

MUKKOMBU

Mukkombu is a beautiful picnic spot located in the outskirts of Trichirappalli in a distance of 18 km from the city. Mukkombu has various tourist attractions such as amusement park, children’s garden, sports facilities, fishing facilities, etc. Thousands of people come here with their family members on week ends to celebrate their holidays. We can reach the other bank of Cauvery by crossing the dam.
